Literacy within Discourse Communities

Swales’ reading and our conversation in class have a lot to do with our understanding of literacies. Literacies are far more complex than they seem, it’s more than just being able to read and write. Discourse communities develop their own lexis and learn to adapt to it. Thus, it creates a new literacy because we learn to use that certain lexis around this group to better relate to one another.
